Colombo, June 22: India’s A team clinched the Triangular Series title by defeating Sri Lanka A in the final match held in Colombo on Sunday. The tournament featured Afghanistan A as the third team in the 50-over format.
After the Indian team’s victory, captain Tilak Varma expressed, “Everyone showcased their true character in this tournament. Winning by a significant margin after losing two consecutive matches to Afghanistan and Sri Lanka was remarkable.”
He added, “Certainly, everyone has played domestic matches in their respective states. All have experience. We had to devise a plan before the match. How we play in the powerplay and between the 10th and 40th overs, as well as in the final overs, is crucial. We know we have big hitters for the death overs. Vaibhav and Arya provided us with a solid start. We also formed good partnerships in the middle overs. The blueprint was evident in the final as well. Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored a record-breaking 94 runs, dismantling the Sri Lankan attack. His innings included the fastest half-century in List A cricket in just 11 balls, while Priyansh Arya supported him well during their 132-run opening partnership.”
Tilak remarked, “To be honest, I feel our bowling was a bit disappointing. We have a very good bowling attack. Everyone is talented, but we were not effective in our bowling. However, in the end, results matter. It feels good to be part of a winning team, but we need to improve our bowling.”
In terms of the match, after losing the toss, the Indian team batted first, scoring 377 runs for 9 wickets. Vaibhav Suryavanshi hit 94 runs off 29 balls, and Tilak Varma contributed 67 runs off 90 balls. The Sri Lankan team was bowled out for 311 runs in 47.1 overs, losing the title match by 66 runs.
