
Ismailia, March 6: Pakistan and England have clinched their spots in the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 after winning their respective semifinals at the qualifying tournament held in Ismailia, Egypt, on Friday. England dominated Malaysia with a resounding 7-1 victory, while Pakistan edged past Japan with a thrilling 4-3 win. The two teams will face off in the final on Saturday.
Malaysia and Japan still have a chance to qualify for the World Cup by winning the bronze medal playoff on Saturday. Additionally, the highest-ranked fourth team from all qualifying tournaments will also secure a place in the World Cup. In another match on the same day, Egypt triumphed over Austria with a commanding 4-0 victory, setting up a playoff against China for fifth place.
England showcased aggressive gameplay from the start, but Malaysia’s defense held strong in the first half, making several crucial saves. Malaysian goalkeeper Hafizuddin Othman made two vital stops, keeping the score at 1-0 in favor of England at halftime. England continued to apply pressure in the third quarter, resulting in more goals.
