Surat, August 16: Following strict directives from Health Minister Praful Panseriya against food adulteration, Gujarat’s Food and Drug Control Administration conducted raids in Surat and Disa. During these operations, they seized suspected adulterated ghee and oil valued at over ₹3.5 million. Officials reported the findings on Saturday.
In Surat, authorities raided a factory operated by Only Food Products located in the Hindwa Dream Industrial Estate in Kamrej Taluka. This facility was reportedly running without a valid license and was allegedly manufacturing and packaging suspected adulterated ghee under the brand name ‘Shri Anmol Ratan Gai Ghee.’
Officials confiscated 5,157 liters of ghee valued at ₹2.61 million, along with 1,485 kilograms of palm oil worth ₹363,000, and 285 kilograms of soybean oil intended for adulteration. Samples of all seized products were collected for testing.
The department noted that the factory was operating covertly, with production and packaging activities allegedly taking place inside the premises.
Additionally, the Food and Drug Control Administration’s Palanpur Circle team raided various firms in Disa. During inspections, they seized 987 liters of ghee suspected of adulteration, estimated to be worth ₹622,200.
Legal samples have been collected under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and sent to laboratories for analysis. Further legal action against the offenders will be based on the investigation’s findings.
Panseriya warned that anyone or any business endangering public health through food adulteration will not be spared. The campaign against food adulteration will be intensified in the coming days.
This recent seizure is part of ongoing enforcement actions by state officials targeting suspected adulteration in food products, with a particular focus on ready-made products and oils allegedly used for adulteration.
