Bengaluru, August 16: The mother of Asaful Malik, who was arrested in Bengaluru on allegations of links to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has asserted his innocence. The police reported that Malik was taken into custody from the Bommasandra Industrial Area.
Asaful Malik, a resident of Noapara in the Baduria police station area of North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, was apprehended by Bengaluru police. His mother, Hasina Bibi, resides at the family home in Noapara.
On Saturday afternoon, Bengaluru police informed Hasina and her husband about their son’s arrest. She expressed disbelief when approached by the media.
Displaying a pile of her son’s books, she stated, “My son was always focused on his studies. He graduated from Gobardanga Hindu College and began taking competitive exams to secure a government job. He even attempted to join the police force.”
She added, “He was preparing for the West Bengal Civil Service exam, but he needed to support the family, so he took a job as a security guard in Bengaluru.”
Hasina mentioned that her son moved to Bengaluru for work about 18 months ago and had not returned to their ancestral home since.
She said, “His father had already gone to Bengaluru. We hope to get more information once he arrives and contacts the police.”
Speaking to the media, she repeatedly expressed her disbelief that her son could be involved in such activities. Neighbors of Asaful also voiced their surprise at the allegations leading to his arrest.
According to a statement from Bengaluru police, Asaful Malik was detained in the Bommasandra Industrial Area, which falls under the Hebbagodi police station jurisdiction, and was subsequently interrogated.
The statement revealed that during questioning, Malik allegedly expressed feelings of revenge against the Pakistani army due to atrocities committed against mosques and civilians in Pakistan. The police also noted that he mentioned the Israel-Palestine conflict and alleged support for Israel by the Pakistani army.
The police press release stated, “During the interrogation, it was discovered that the accused had come into contact with Imran Ahindar, a member of the TTP based in Afghanistan.”
