Over ₹2 Crore Worth of Methamphetamine Seized in Tripura, One Arrested

Agartala, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant drug bust, the Assam Rifles have confiscated methamphetamine tablets valued at over ₹2 crore in Tripura. During a joint operation with the Customs Department in Agartala, authorities arrested a suspected drug trafficker in Mohanpur, West Tripura district.

The operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 1.994 kilograms of methamphetamine, commonly known as yaba tablets. Along with the drugs, a motorcycle belonging to the suspect was also confiscated. The arrested individual, along with the illegal substances and the vehicle, has been handed over to the Customs Department in Agartala for further investigation.

A statement from the Assam Rifles emphasized their commitment to combating drug trafficking in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies in Tripura. They aim to contribute to a drug-free society through coordinated efforts.

In a separate operation last week, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Customs Department, seized around 841 kilograms of cannabis valued at approximately ₹4.24 crore in the Khowai district of Tripura. These operations are part of a broader initiative to curb drug trafficking in the region.

Local police officials noted that the state police, Assam Rifles, Tripura State Rifles (TSR), and other security forces frequently conduct joint operations to eradicate illegal cannabis cultivation, particularly in the Sepahijala district, which borders Bangladesh.

According to a police officer, the dry cannabis produced in Tripura is not consumed locally. Instead, it is trafficked to various states, including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, where it fetches a higher price. During transportation, these shipments are often intercepted in trucks, smaller vehicles, and even passenger trains.
