Nationwide Protests Planned by India Block for Election Chiefs Resignation

New Delhi, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Leaders of the India Block are gearing up for nationwide protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Demonstrations have been ongoing in New Delhi, where opposition leader Rahul Gandhi led a march from Barakhamba Road to the Supreme Court on Monday.

Vikramaditya Singh, a minister from the Himachal Pradesh government, stated that people from various states have gathered in Delhi to protest. While the current demonstrations are limited to the capital, he warned that similar protests will soon spread across the country. Singh emphasized that this movement is not solely a Congress initiative; it includes young supporters and students who have recently attempted large-scale protests. He criticized the heavy police presence, which included 40,000 to 50,000 officers, claiming it reflects a government terrified of its citizens and untrusting of democracy.

Concerns have been raised about the alleged theft of 130 million votes, which has put the role of the Chief Election Commissioner under scrutiny. Singh noted that the government’s refusal to allow protests at Jantar Mantar indicates its fear of dissent. He asserted that the right to protest is fundamental in a democracy and questioned how such a system can function if voices are silenced.

Govind Singh Dotasra, president of the Rajasthan Congress, declared that a revolution is underway against those accused of vote theft, power grabs, and undermining democracy. He claimed that the Modi government and the RSS will ultimately face consequences, suggesting that those currently in power should be imprisoned for their actions.

Congress leader Salman Khurshid expressed discontent over the removal of Jantar Mantar from the list of approved protest sites. He stated that wherever their supporters gather will effectively become Jantar Mantar. Khurshid indicated that they would discuss further actions if necessary, demonstrating their commitment to challenge any restrictions placed upon their right to protest.
