Beijing, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Recent data from the China Automobile Industry Association indicates a notable increase in the production and sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China from January to September 2026. The figures reveal that production reached 12.483 million units, while sales totaled 12.472 million units, marking an 11% rise in production and an 11.1% increase in sales compared to the same period last year. Notably, NEVs now account for 53.6% of total new car sales in the country.
The international market has also seen a surge in demand for Chinese NEVs. During the first nine months of 2026, China exported 4.006 million new energy vehicles, which is 1.3 times more than the same period last year.
Liu Yan, the deputy secretary-general of the China Automobile Industry Association, noted that the global competitiveness of Chinese vehicles has evolved beyond just affordability. It now encompasses a broader competitive edge based on new energy vehicles. This shift is not only promoting global green and low-carbon development but also aiding the Chinese automotive industry in maintaining its competitive advantage over the long term.
Since June 2026, China’s total car exports have consistently exceeded 1 million units for four consecutive months. During this time, the share of new energy vehicles in total car exports has remained above 50%.
