China and Europe Reach Agreement on Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Trade

Beijing, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : The Chinese Ministry of Commerce recently addressed media inquiries about an agreement reached between China and Europe regarding the trade of hybrid and electric vehicles. This development comes after extensive discussions under a trade and investment consultation mechanism aimed at alleviating tensions between the two parties.

In response to a reporter’s question about these discussions, a spokesperson from the ministry confirmed that both sides have been engaged in ongoing dialogue, resulting in several agreements. This cooperation is expected to foster a stable and balanced trade partnership between China and Europe.

The spokesperson emphasized that discussions on hybrid and electric vehicle trade were grounded in mutual respect and equal consultation. Both parties have focused on resolving economic and trade differences while addressing each other’s concerns in a balanced manner.

Three fundamental principles were highlighted regarding the trade of hybrid vehicles. The first principle is respect for facts. According to data from the European Union’s statistical office, the EU imported 107,000 hybrid vehicles from China in 2024 and 302,000 in 2025. The two sides have agreed to base their trade arrangements on the 2025 figures, ensuring export opportunities for Chinese companies while considering the actual conditions of both industries and their legitimate concerns.

The second principle is non-discrimination, which mandates that no measures should specifically target Chinese products or involve discriminatory practices against Chinese companies. The third principle is adherence to regulations, confirming that trade arrangements must comply with World Trade Organization rules.

The spokesperson reiterated that these three principles will guide all discussions and provide a solid foundation for protecting the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
