Oscar Bobb Transfer Stalls as Financial Demands Deter European Clubs

Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb faces a setback in his potential January move to a top European club due to high financial demands.

The 22-year-old forward has been linked with a departure from the Etihad Stadium this month. Manchester City is expected to soon announce the signing of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth for £62.5 million, following the Ghana international’s successful medical in Manchester.

After starting the first three Premier League matches this season, Bobb has struggled to maintain a regular place in the team. Players like Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku have impressed and secured spots in Pep Guardiola’s preferred lineup.

Bobb gained attention with a last-minute winning goal against Newcastle in December 2023, a key moment in Manchester City’s journey to their fourth consecutive Premier League title. The Oslo-born player, a product of City’s academy, missed most of the 2024-25 season due to a leg break sustained in training shortly after featuring in City’s FA Community Shield victory over Manchester United.

His return was further delayed by a hamstring injury, limiting him to a substitute appearance in April 2025 during a 2-0 win over Leicester City. That season proved challenging for Guardiola’s side, who finished third in the league.

Although Bobb had a promising start to the current season, including a strong performance in a 4-0 win at Wolves, he has not consistently met expectations. He is currently recovering from an injury suffered in December against Brentford.

With Semenyo’s arrival set to intensify competition for attacking roles, a move away from Manchester City would aid Bobb’s growth. Borussia Dortmund has shown keen interest in the Norwegian, but financial factors are proving to be a barrier.

According to SPORTBild, as reported by Sport Witness, Dortmund’s internal discussions about signing Bobb have highlighted the player’s high cost. The total expense, including transfer fee, wages, and agent fees, is estimated at around €70 million, making the transfer unlikely at this stage.

Manchester City remains firm on Bobb’s valuation. Under a long-term contract, he could still contribute to Guardiola’s squad as the club competes for trophies across four competitions in the second half of the season.

The team’s Premier League title hopes have been questioned recently, with City still searching for their first win in 2026 following three consecutive draws against Sunderland, Chelsea, and Brighton.
