New Delhi, June 26: German football icon and Golden Ball winner Oliver Kahn believes that the FIFA World Cup is a tournament that showcases extraordinary talent and passion from around the globe.
The former Bayern Munich goalkeeper stated, “Despite the significance of club competitions, the FIFA World Cup remains the biggest event.”
Kahn expressed on G5, “The FIFA World Cup is the greatest stage for football—a tournament that inspires millions and creates moments that become part of sports history. Each edition brings extraordinary talent, passion, and emotion, making it one of the most fascinating events in global sports.”
The former captain of Germany also shared his excitement about the development of football in India. He said, “I am thrilled to be part of the expert panel with G5 and Unite8 Sports, and I look forward to sharing my insights with fans across India. The growth of football in the country has been impressive. Being part of the experience that brings the tournament closer to the audience is exciting.”
Kahn represented Germany from 1995 to 2006, playing 86 international matches and leading the national team to the FIFA World Cup final in 2002. His outstanding performance during that tournament made him the only goalkeeper in FIFA World Cup history to win the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player. He was also regarded as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
Renowned for his illustrious career with Germany and Bayern Munich, Kahn’s leadership, consistency, and winning mentality have established him as one of football’s all-time greats. Even after retiring from professional play, he remains a prominent figure in football as a commentator, analyst, and author, recognized as one of the sport’s most influential voices.
Kahn has a long-standing connection with India, having first visited in 2008 when Bayern Munich played their farewell match against Mohun Bagan in Kolkata. He returned to India in 2023.
