Shillong, June 26: The Meghalaya government is set to celebrate the FIFA World Cup 2026 in a unique way. On Friday, the Chief Minister will inaugurate a Football Fan Park in Shillong. This initiative aims to provide football enthusiasts with a space to enjoy World Cup matches on a large LED screen for free.
The Fan Park is located at the S.R.G.T. parking lot in Polo, Shillong. Here, fans can gather to watch matches together and experience the excitement of the World Cup as a community. The government believes this will enhance public enthusiasm for the sport and strengthen the football culture in the state.
According to government officials, the Fan Park will broadcast matches that are convenient for Indian viewers, including games starting at 9:30 PM, 10:30 PM, and 12:30 AM. This will allow a large number of people to enjoy the World Cup without any hassle.
Notably, entry to the Fan Park will be completely free throughout the tournament. Both local residents and tourists visiting Meghalaya will be able to enjoy the matches. The government hopes this will boost tourism and further establish the state’s identity as a sports-loving region.
In addition to live match screenings, cultural programs will also be organized at the Fan Park. Artists associated with the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Program will perform, showcasing a unique blend of football and the rich cultural heritage of Meghalaya.
