Srinagar, August 1: Two laborers from Chhattisgarh were tragically murdered in Kulgam. On July 31, terrorists shot dead the two migrant workers who were employed at a brick kiln. This incident has sparked widespread reactions from various leaders. Sunil Sharma, the Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, visited the families of the victims and emphasized the urgent need for security forces to be alert once again.
In a conversation, Sharma stated that the brutal murder of the two laborers in Kulgam’s Killam occurred in front of their families. He expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it unacceptable in any society. “This is a murder of humanity,” he said, lamenting that such acts are wrongly labeled as jihad.
He questioned the justification of shooting innocent, unarmed laborers, asserting that it reflects a Pakistan-sponsored ideology. “Security forces need to awaken once more. Investigative agencies must reactivate and dismantle this ecosystem,” he urged.
Sharma also mentioned that he had met with the grieving families and offered them solace. He facilitated discussions with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, who assured assistance. He noted that while the local government is also providing help, the value of a human life is priceless, and it is crucial to support the families during this difficult time.
In response to the incident, former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah remarked that such events occur whenever there is a demand for full statehood. Sharma challenged Abdullah’s statement, questioning the connection between statehood and terrorism. “The statehood is to be granted by Parliament. Terrorism is sponsored by Pakistan. What is the link between the two?” he asked, highlighting that terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir resembles a proxy war.
Sharma criticized Abdullah’s remarks as an attempt to justify such incidents, calling it a misfortune for the state. In light of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s comments on the incident, Sharma stated that questioning security forces undermines their morale and encourages those responsible for such acts. He stressed the need to stand with the families rather than criticize the forces.
He clarified that this incident was not due to negligence on the part of security forces, as it was executed suddenly. “By questioning the security forces, we are inadvertently promoting those who carry out such attacks,” he concluded.
