Patna, August 1: A severe fire erupted at the office of Judicial Magistrate Kiran Kumari in Munger district, Bihar, located within the fort complex. The blaze, which occurred on Saturday morning, reportedly consumed several important case files, legal documents, and historical records.
According to court staff, the fire broke out around 9:50 AM, just before the court opened, leaving no employees or officials present inside the office at that time.
The fire department was promptly alerted, and two fire tenders arrived at the scene. Firefighters managed to control the flames within approximately one hour.
The incident caused chaos in the court complex, with a large number of court staff, police officers, and lawyers gathering at the site after news of the fire spread.
Initial reports suggest that the fire was caused by a short circuit. However, officials are conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause.
The court administration has begun assessing the damage and is compiling a detailed list of the files and documents that were destroyed in the fire.
A technical inspection of the electrical wiring and cables is also underway. Inspectors are examining the entire court complex to prevent similar incidents in other courtrooms, judicial halls, judges’ chambers, the cafeteria, and other essential areas within the premises.
Authorities are investigating other potential causes and identifying individuals who were present in the area at the time of the incident.
While there have been no reports of injuries, concerns are rising over the loss of crucial documents related to ongoing cases and the challenges of reconstructing them.
As a result of this incident, hearings scheduled for Saturday have been postponed, with a new date expected to be announced soon.
