New Delhi, August 4: Opposition parties have targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the results of the Bankipur by-election. Opposition MPs claim the election results reflect public dissatisfaction, asserting that this outcome is not merely about one seat but a reflection of sentiments across the nation. They also criticized the government for the ongoing deadlock in Parliament, demanding an apology from Home Minister Amit Shah and addressing the issue of bills being passed without discussion.
CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas described the Bankipur by-election results as a significant political message for the BJP. He stated that this outcome serves as a “slap on the face” of the BJP, indicating that the public cannot be taken lightly.
Brittas accused the people of India of having understood the BJP’s political strategies. He argued that the party’s insensitivity and irresponsible behavior have led to this political cost. He emphasized that the result is not confined to Patna or Bankipur but signals the public sentiment nationwide.
CPI(M) MP Raja Ram noted that issues such as unemployment, education, and democratic institutions directly impacted the by-election results. He alleged that the National Education Policy is promoting the saffronization and commercialization of education. Furthermore, he claimed that attempts to undermine democracy and the Constitution have also influenced voters, which is reflected in the election outcomes.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Sougata Roy interpreted the Bankipur by-election results as a sign of growing discontent against the BJP. He mentioned that particularly the youth and Gen Z are dissatisfied with the BJP, which is evident in the election results.
Roy added that until Home Minister Amit Shah apologizes for his alleged comments regarding “donation theft” and clarity is provided on the opposition’s demands, smooth functioning in Parliament will be challenging. He lamented the unfortunate passing of bills without discussion in the House.
Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) MP Arvind Sawant also characterized the Bankipur by-election results as the beginning of rising public anger against the BJP. He suggested that this is merely a glimpse of what is to come, with public outrage expected to become more pronounced in the future.
Sawant accused the BJP of coming to power through false promises and misleading claims, continuously attempting to mislead the public. The opposition asserts that the Bankipur by-election results carry significant implications for the upcoming political landscape.
