New Delhi, August 4: The recent victory of Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraj Party, in the Bankipur Assembly by-election has sparked various reactions from political leaders. JD(U) MP Kaushalendra Kumar stated that the results indicate a need for increased effort. Senior NDA leaders should conduct a thorough review of the outcomes.
Kumar remarked, “We need to put in a bit more effort. I urge all leaders of the NDA alliance to review this situation. This seat has historically belonged to a former BJP MLA. Therefore, the public mandate in this by-election warrants a detailed examination. We must also consider the current circumstances in the country. Our youth are struggling, and we need to address their concerns. We will convene for a review. Under the leadership of our leader, former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, we should analyze why we lost a seat like Bankipur.”
He continued, “Preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections must begin now. While the alliance meets every Tuesday, such discussions are lacking. If people ask us, I will respond. There are some workers and MPs in the NDA who wish to speak, and they should do so. If regular reviews were conducted, I believe we wouldn’t have faced a defeat in this by-election.”
Bihar Minister Ramkripal Yadav referred to the result as a “masterstroke.” He praised Kishor’s electoral strategy but also advised him to fulfill his promises.
Yadav stated, “Prashant Kishor has indeed played a masterstroke. He has instilled great hope among the people of Bankipur.” He added, “I am confident that you, Prashant Kishor, will deliver on your commitments. However, your statements have varied. I heard you say you would develop this area like Bengaluru, but now you’re saying it won’t be entirely like Bengaluru.”
JD(U) National General Secretary Shyam Rajak emphasized the need for a comprehensive review following the loss of the seat, identifying grassroots shortcomings.
Rajak mentioned, “If people were misled, we must acknowledge our own shortcomings. A thorough review is essential for all these issues.” He further stated, “A formal meeting or gathering is not enough to gauge the situation. We need to meet with party workers for an in-depth review at the grassroots level. Only then will the true picture emerge. Based on those results, we will start working again to regain our lost seat.”
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad linked the by-election results to a significant political shift, asserting that the BJP will continue to face electoral defeats.
He stated, “These by-election results are not surprising. This trend is expected to continue in future by-elections. These results clearly indicate that the BJP’s era is coming to an end.” Prasad further claimed that the BJP’s decline began with the Ayodhya election results and predicted that a government led by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav would emerge in Uttar Pradesh in 2027.
He concluded, “In 2027, a PDA government will be formed under Akhilesh Yadav’s leadership, leading the state towards progress.”
It is noteworthy that Prashant Kishor achieved a significant victory in the Bankipur by-election. This marks the first electoral win for the Jan Suraj Party, which is still in the early stages of its political journey. After 32 rounds of counting, Kishor received 64,151 votes, defeating BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha, who garnered 44,827 votes. RJD candidate Rekha Gupta came in third with 14,273 votes. Kishor won the seat by a margin of 19,324 votes.
