Opposition Criticizes Punjab Government After Explosions in Amritsar and Jalandhar

Chandigarh, May 6: Following explosions in Amritsar and Jalandhar, opposition parties have launched a scathing attack on the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab. Leaders from the opposition claim that the Punjab government is mired in internal disputes and that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has failed in his role.

Bikram Singh Majithia, a leader from the Shiromani Akali Dal, condemned the blasts, stating, “I strongly denounce these explosions. However, the truth is that this should serve as a wake-up call for the Punjab government. Our Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, seems to be perpetually intoxicated. How can a Chief Minister of a border state like Punjab, which shares a 550-kilometer border with Pakistan—where unrest is frequently instigated—manage law and order if he is always under the influence?”

He continued, “The situation in Punjab is alarming, as evidenced by the explosion in Jalandhar. Police officials claim it was caused by a scooter battery, while the Khalistan Liberation Army has claimed responsibility. The blast was so powerful that its sound was heard for several kilometers. This incident highlights the failure of Punjab Police’s intelligence, especially since it occurred near a BSF checkpoint, a location known as the heart of Jalandhar.”

Congress leader Abhishek Dutt emphasized that Punjab is a sensitive state, historically prone to such incidents. He urged the Punjab government to prioritize national security in collaboration with the central government.

Dutt added, “It is also true that the Punjab government is often caught up in internal disputes. There are allegations against the Chief Minister for arriving at the assembly under the influence of alcohol, and several of his Rajya Sabha MPs have gone missing. It seems that the AAP government in Punjab is on the verge of collapse. Bhagwant Mann has failed as a Chief Minister; he cannot control his MPs or maintain law and order in the state.”

On Tuesday night, explosions occurred in both Amritsar and Jalandhar. The blast in Amritsar took place near a significant army camp, while in Jalandhar, a parked scooter was completely destroyed. Forensic teams visited the sites on Wednesday morning, conducting investigations and collecting evidence.
