New Delhi, August 4: The police in New Delhi’s southwest district have arrested two suspects in a diamond theft case. Authorities recovered the stolen diamond, a stolen mobile phone, and two additional mobile devices during the operation.
The suspects have been identified as 22-year-old Manish Chandra from Almora, Uttarakhand, and 22-year-old Ankit Kumar from Mahipalpur, New Delhi.
According to police reports, a case was registered on July 10 at the South Campus police station after the complainant reported the diamond theft. The complainant alleged that the diamond was stolen by Manish Chandra, a member of the housekeeping staff.
Following the complaint, a dedicated police team was formed under the supervision of Inspector Ravinder Kumar Verma, the station house officer at South Campus, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Babbar Bhan from the Vasant Vihar sub-division. The team included Assistant Sub-Inspector Satpal, Head Constable Rajendra, and Constable Ravishankar.
During the investigation, police discovered that Manish had joined the complainant’s household as a housekeeping staff member and stole the diamond shortly thereafter. After the theft, he resigned and went into hiding.
Investigators revealed that Manish attempted to sell the stolen diamond but found no buyers. Subsequently, he reached out to his accomplice, Ankit Kumar, for assistance. Ankit circulated images of the diamond via his mobile phone to identify potential buyers.
Throughout the investigation, the police team conducted extensive technical analysis, electronic surveillance, and gathered intelligence. They executed multiple raids in Hyderabad, Almora, and Delhi. Based on reliable information and continuous efforts, both suspects were apprehended in the Nanakpura area of Moti Bagh, New Delhi.
During police questioning, Manish confessed to the theft, leading to the recovery of the stolen diamond. Ankit admitted to knowing Manish and attempted to help sell the stolen diamond by sharing its images with potential buyers. The mobile phone used for this purpose was also seized by the police.
The investigation revealed that Manish Chandra completed his education up to the 12th grade and worked as housekeeping staff, while Ankit Kumar studied until the 11th grade and was also employed in housekeeping at a hotel.
Authorities stated that the operation successfully resolved two cases: the diamond theft reported at South Campus police station and a mobile phone theft case registered at Kamla Market police station.
