Opposition Criticizes Government Over Rising Fuel Prices Amid Global Crisis Claims

New Delhi, May 19: Leaders from opposition parties have accused the central government of putting ordinary citizens in a difficult position due to rising fuel prices and inflation. In response, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defended the situation, describing it as part of a global crisis affecting economies worldwide.

Anurag Dhanda, a leader from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), launched a scathing attack on the central government, stating that increasing prices of CNG, petrol, and diesel have forced auto and truck drivers to protest.

In an interview with a news agency, Dhanda said, “Auto drivers have now announced that they will go on strike due to rising CNG gas prices. Truck drivers have already declared their intent to strike because diesel prices are continually increasing. The government has failed to understand the concerns of auto drivers, truck drivers, and the common people.”

He criticized Prime Minister Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation and the BJP leaders’ use of metro and public transport, claiming such actions are merely political theatrics.

Dhanda stated, “The entire country is in distress, and people are suffering. BJP leaders, their ministers, and chief ministers are adding salt to the wounds of the people with such dramas.”

He alleged that BJP leaders travel with heavy security even while using public transport, often accompanied by 30-40 security personnel on the metro. “I ask how these people reached the metro station? They came in cars, so what is the point? Moreover, they occupy entire metro compartments, leaving no space for ordinary travelers,” he added.

Congress MP Deepender Hooda also targeted the government over inflation and the weakening rupee, accusing it of pushing the country into a tough situation due to its economic policies.

Hooda remarked that the government’s flawed economic strategies have led the country into a very challenging phase. “If any currency has seen the fastest decline in the international market, it is the Indian rupee,” he stated.

He further claimed that prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas, and fertilizers have reached all-time highs in the country. “Petrol, diesel, gas, and fertilizer prices have hit the highest levels in the history of the nation,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Minister Anil Rajbhar defended the government, stating that the increase in fuel prices is part of a larger global economic crisis.

He remarked, “This is a global issue and a crisis faced by the entire world. We take pride in our government and our leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While diesel and petrol prices have risen in every country, the increase in India has been the least and has occurred the latest.”
