New Delhi, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : The Election Commission of India (ECI) has scheduled a meeting for the Ritabrata Banerjee faction of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) on September 12 in New Delhi. This invitation was extended through a letter sent to Banerjee, requesting his attendance with a five-member delegation.
According to the ECI’s letter, the meeting is set for 11 AM at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management in Dwarka. The commission has asked for the names and vehicle details of the delegation members to be emailed in advance to facilitate necessary arrangements.
This communication from the Election Commission follows a letter from Ritabrata Banerjee dated June 22, 2026. It addresses grievances related to the All India Trinamool Congress, which is recognized as a political party in West Bengal, Meghalaya, and Tripura.
The letter was issued by Ashwani Kumar Mohal on behalf of the Election Commission. Ritabrata Banerjee is currently the opposition leader in the West Bengal Assembly.
Previously, a single bench of the Calcutta High Court permitted both factions of the TMC to celebrate the foundation day of its student wing, the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMP), separately on August 28. However, the court prohibited either faction from holding events at their preferred locations.
Both factions had filed petitions in the Calcutta High Court seeking permission to organize an event on Mayo Road in central Kolkata, a traditional site for such gatherings before the party split into two factions.
