Ranchi, September 3 — The government of Jharkhand is gearing up to initiate a new urban expansion plan. This initiative will explore the potential for developing satellite townships in the state’s urban districts. Officials will assess available land, connectivity, infrastructure, employment opportunities, and future population needs to formulate a comprehensive action plan.
During a meeting on Thursday at the Jharkhand Secretariat, Chief Minister Hemant Soren discussed this proposal with officials from the Greater Ranchi Development Authority (GRDA) and the Ranchi Smart City project. The meeting focused on creating a detailed plan for the future expansion of Ranchi Smart City.
An evaluation of the current area and resources of the smart city will be conducted. Based on this assessment, the government will determine how to expand the city to accommodate its growing population and economic activities. The expansion plan will include essential services such as roads, water supply, electricity, sewage, public transport, and other civic amenities.
The meeting also addressed the possibility of negotiating land and related issues with Heavy Engineering Corporation Limited (HEC) for the planned expansion of Ranchi. Officials were instructed to study all aspects related to this matter and prepare accordingly. The proposed satellite townships in other urban districts will not only focus on residential development but will also evaluate the potential for civic amenities, employment, and economic activities.
A model will be developed considering the available land, existing infrastructure, road connectivity, and future population projections. This plan aims to alleviate the pressure of increasing populations on cities and foster new economic activities in surrounding areas. It will also emphasize the development of new centers for employment, trade, and investment.
The meeting underscored the need to expedite pending processes related to land matters in the GRDA and smart city projects. Officials were directed to work in coordination with relevant departments and conduct regular progress reviews.
