In Kolkata, TMC MP Mahua Moitra has accused the BJP of orchestrating an attack on the office of party general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee. Speaking to reporters, she asserted that the allegations are backed by video footage showing BJP supporters vandalizing the office.
Moitra described how the attackers first seized a mobile phone from a security guard and threatened him with a metal rod. They then entered the office, causing extensive damage and destroying everything in sight. Attempts were made to dismantle CCTV cameras, but some remained operational, providing evidence of the chaos that ensued.
The TMC MP further alleged that these vandals deliberately targeted important documents and computers, claiming the entire incident was premeditated. She expressed frustration over the police’s lack of response, noting that despite multiple calls for assistance, officers arrived on the scene only at 6 AM, two hours after the attack occurred. By then, the assailants had already fled, although TMC members managed to apprehend six individuals.
Moitra characterized the incident as a joint operation between the police and the BJP, aimed at intimidating TMC leaders and disrupting their activities. She highlighted threats made against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, asserting that the attackers had explicitly stated their intent to keep her confined. The MP also criticized BJP leader Samik Bhattacharya, questioning the party’s claims regarding its student wing and its connections to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
This incident adds to the ongoing tensions between the TMC and the BJP in West Bengal, raising concerns over political violence and the safety of party members.
