Online Betting Racket Busted During India-England Cricket Match; Five Arrested

New Delhi, July 18: The Delhi Police‘s Kirti Nagar station has dismantled an online betting racket operating during the cricket match between India and England, leading to the arrest of five individuals. Authorities seized 28 mobile phones, two laptops, and various electronic devices from the suspects. The police are currently investigating the mastermind behind the network and the associated financial transactions.

On July 16, the Kirti Nagar police received a tip-off regarding online betting being conducted from a house located in N-Block during the India-England cricket match. Acting on this information, a police team led by Inspector Mahavir Singh and ACP Jai Prakash was formed to conduct a raid.

During the operation, five individuals were allegedly caught in the act of online betting. Upon seeing the police, the suspects attempted to shut down their mobile phones and laptops to destroy digital evidence, but law enforcement quickly apprehended them. Evidence of live online betting was found on the electronic devices, and initial investigations revealed suspicious illegal transactions amounting to millions of rupees.

An FIR has been registered at the Kirti Nagar police station under Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Delhi Public Gambling Act, 1955. Police state that the interrogation has revealed the suspects’ involvement in online betting.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Jatin Tandon, Yogesh Goyal, Anmol, Shikhar Agarwal, and Mohit Dhingra. According to police, all suspects were lured into this illegal operation by the prospect of easy money, with Shikhar Agarwal reportedly playing a crucial role in the racket.

During the raid, police also recovered two audio recorders, a headphone, three notebooks documenting betting and transactions, an internet router, a portable Wi-Fi router, and various chargers, among other items.

Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. Officials are focused on identifying the alleged mastermind behind the online betting syndicate, as well as uncovering other individuals involved and the entire financial network.
