Lucknow, June 17: In a provocative statement, Om Prakash Rajbhar, a minister in the Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath, has stirred the political landscape ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.
Rajbhar asserted that the recent rebellions within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal and the shifting loyalties of Uddhav Thackeray’s MPs in Maharashtra signal a similar trend in Uttar Pradesh. He hinted that several leaders and MPs from the Samajwadi Party (SP) might soon defect to the NDA.
Speaking in Lucknow, Rajbhar remarked that the political turmoil seen in West Bengal is now shifting focus to Uttar Pradesh. He emphasized that the masterminds behind the mining scam and the Gomti River Front scam are well-known in the state. As the pressure mounts, he suggested that the SP is feeling the heat. “The entire SP is poised to join the BJP,” he claimed.
Rajbhar also referenced a letter from senior SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging him to disclose its contents. He implied that the letter may contain names of SP members ready to switch allegiance to the BJP.
He reiterated his point, questioning whether anyone had seen Ram Gopal Yadav discreetly handing a letter to Amit Shah. The implication was clear: many in the SP could be looking to join the BJP, seeking protection in exchange for their loyalty.
On comments made by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut regarding ‘Operation Tiger,’ Rajbhar stated that leaders must understand that if something is not for sale, it cannot be bought. He criticized the notion of leaders who are willing to sell themselves, suggesting that such figures, like those nurtured by Mamata Banerjee, ultimately lose their integrity.
Rajbhar took a jab at the SP’s Brahmin conference, questioning why a party leader made controversial remarks about the Brahmin community. He urged attendees to confront SP leaders about these statements, asserting that those seeking tickets would attend but would not secure votes. He cited an example from Purvanchal, where a statue of Parshuram erected by Akhilesh Yadav had its axe fall before elections, which he deemed an ill omen. “No one will vote for Akhilesh Yadav, regardless of the conferences he holds,” he declared.
Regarding discussions on opposition alliances and seat-sharing for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Rajbhar noted that there are 403 seats in total. He questioned whether the opposition is preparing for all seats or just a few. He recalled that they had previously contested together in 2017, with one party winning 47 seats, which may not be achievable again. “Whether they fight together or separately, it makes no difference,” he concluded.
