New Delhi, September 2: Every year on September 2, World Coconut Day is celebrated. In India, the coconut is not just a fruit; it is a vital element connected to culture, faith, health, and the economy. On this occasion, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan extended heartfelt greetings to all coconut-producing farmers.
Chouhan posted on the social media platform X, stating, “Coconuts hold special significance in Indian culture. They are considered highly auspicious and beneficial. Coconuts are offered during religious festivals, prayers, and various auspicious occasions. It is one of the most favored fruits in India, used in sweets, various dishes, and other products. Thanks to the relentless efforts of our farmers, the production, export, and trade of coconuts continue to grow.”
Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Bhagirat Chaudhary, also wished everyone on World Coconut Day, emphasizing that coconuts are a unique gift from nature, beneficial not only for rituals but also for health.
BJP legislator Ajay Singh posted on X, stating, “World Coconut Day is celebrated to raise awareness about coconuts, highlight their importance, and attract national and international attention to this crop.”
BJP leader Gopal Chaturvedi congratulated the farmers, saying, “Coconuts are deeply intertwined with our lives. Beyond religious rituals, they now serve as a significant source of employment. Nurture and promote this wonderful fruit, known as ‘Shreephal’ because it enhances ‘Shree’ (prosperity).”
Certainly, coconuts are the foundation of prosperity for farmers. Millions in states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh depend on coconut cultivation. Products like coconut oil, milk, water, copra, and coir are in high demand both domestically and internationally.
