Bhubaneswar, August 2: Odisha is currently facing severe flooding in several districts due to rising water levels in the Mahanadi River, raising concerns among local authorities. In response to the critical situation, the central government has approved the release of the second installment of its share in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the financial year 2026-27. Chief Minister Mohan Chara Majhi announced this decision.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Chief Minister Majhi stated, “The central government has granted approval for an advance release of ₹500 crore as the second installment of its share in the SDRF for Odisha for the financial year (FY) 2026-27. This timely assistance will aid in addressing the current flood situation.”
The Chief Minister further noted, “This support will strengthen the state’s rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts, provide essential aid to affected families, and expedite the normalization of conditions in flood-hit areas. I sincerely thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for standing firmly with the people of Odisha and providing this timely assistance.”
Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida also expressed gratitude on ‘X’, stating, “To tackle the flood situation and accelerate relief, rescue, and rehabilitation efforts, an advance approval of ₹500 crore has been granted as the second installment of the SDRF. During this challenging time, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their timely support to the people of Odisha.”
Additionally, the Chief Minister highlighted that the central government has released an extra advance installment of ₹1,09,019 crore to strengthen the financial capacity of states and support their developmental priorities. Odisha will receive ₹4,819 crore as its share, in addition to the regular monthly devolution scheduled for August 2026, ensuring financial stability for the state’s plans and disaster management.
Majhi added, “This timely assistance will further bolster the state’s development efforts, accelerate capital expenditure, and effectively implement essential infrastructure and public welfare initiatives. It will propel our vision of a prosperous and developed Odisha.”
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo also expressed his gratitude on ‘X’, stating, “I am very thankful for the timely support from the central government. The release of an additional advance installment of ₹1,09,019 crore as tax devolution has strengthened the financial capacity of states. Odisha has received ₹4,819 crore as its share, in addition to the regular monthly devolution for August 2026.”
Singh Deo further remarked, “This crucial support will expedite our capital expenditure, promote infrastructure development, and effectively implement public welfare initiatives. It accelerates our collective vision of creating a prosperous and developed Odisha.”
