Bhubaneswar, August 2: Odisha Police has successfully reunited 17,590 missing women and children with their families between January and June 2026. This achievement is seen as a significant milestone in the state government’s efforts to ensure the safety of women and children.
According to police reports, this initiative was conducted under the direct supervision of Odisha’s DGP, Y.B. Khurania. The Women’s and Child Crime Prevention Wing of the Crime Branch played a vital role by continuously investigating and coordinating with other states to make this campaign successful.
During this period, the state reported 4,873 cases of missing children, including 538 boys, 4,334 girls, and one transgender child. The police managed to recover 5,413 children safely. Puri district led the recovery efforts, finding 1,161 children, followed by the Urban Police District (UPD) in Bhubaneswar with 399 recoveries and Mayurbhanj with 278.
Additionally, 10,605 women were reported missing in the same six months. Police successfully located 12,177 missing women, with Puri district again taking the lead by bringing back 3,713 women. Jajpur and Ganjam districts followed with 820 and 581 recoveries, respectively.
Puri district has emerged as the best-performing area in the state for recovering missing women and children, with a total of 1,161 children and 3,713 women found.
To locate missing women and children, Odisha Police regularly conducts special operations under “Operation Anveshan.” This year, two such operations have already taken place, with the latest running from July 18 to July 22. During this operation, police rescued 321 missing children, including 35 boys and 286 girls, as well as 2,434 missing women.
