New Delhi, August 25: In a significant move to enhance the operational capabilities of women within India’s counter-terrorism framework, the National Security Guard (NSG) Training Academy in Manesar has initiated the first-ever Women’s Commando Conversion Course (WCCC) for female personnel from state police forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).
The NSG has described this initiative as a new milestone in women’s empowerment, aiming to prepare female personnel for challenging and specialized roles in counter-terrorism operations.
This intensive 12-week course is designed to develop physically robust, technically skilled, and operationally ready female commandos. The training program includes rigorous physical conditioning, weapon handling and marksmanship, tactical intervention, hostage rescue, and other critical aspects of counter-terrorism operations.
The NSG Training Academy’s initiative goes beyond individual skill development. It aims to disseminate the force’s counter-terrorism expertise to female personnel across various security forces.
According to the NSG, this course will help create a larger pool of trained operational personnel. It will also promote standard professional benchmarks and strengthen interoperability among different forces within India’s security framework.
The initiative aims to ensure that after completing the course, female personnel can bring their enhanced skills and operational knowledge back to their respective forces. This is expected to bolster institutional preparedness and expand counter-terrorism capabilities nationwide.
The NSG emphasized that the inaugural WCCC not only signifies an increase in women’s participation in security operations but also reflects their empowerment through operational capacity. The training aims to equip female personnel to handle complex and specialized tasks effectively, addressing the evolving challenges of internal security.
The National Security Guard shared details of this initiative on social media, highlighting it as a crucial step for women in India’s security framework. They stated, “Those who dare, lead.” This new milestone in women’s empowerment marks a significant advancement in enhancing the operational capabilities of women in India’s counter-terrorism efforts.
The NSG further noted, “The 12-week intensive course aims to prepare female commandos who are physically strong, technically proficient, and ready for operations. They will receive rigorous training in physical conditioning, weaponry and marksmanship, tactical intervention, hostage rescue, and other specialized aspects of counter-terrorism operations.”
The NSG underscored the broader objectives of this program, stating that this training will enhance the operational capabilities of different forces, promote uniform professional standards, and strengthen interoperability.
The launch of the WCCC is a vital step toward increasing specialized counter-terrorism training opportunities for female personnel and equipping them with the necessary skills for complex operational responsibilities.
