New Delhi, February 16: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) announced on Monday that it has enhanced the ‘UPI One World’ wallet service for foreign guests attending the India AI Impact Summit 2026, taking place in the national capital.

This summit is scheduled from February 16 to 20. Representatives from over 40 countries will now be able to make UPI payments easily and securely during their stay in India.

Under this pilot initiative, international travelers can conduct real-time person-to-merchant (P2M) payments via UPI without needing an Indian mobile number or a local bank account.

This means that international guests can enjoy India’s culture, shopping, and cuisine while utilizing ‘Made in India’ digital payment technology.

The ‘UPI One World’ wallet is being made available through authorized prepaid payment instrument (PPI) issuers at the Indira Gandhi International Airport and at the NPCI pavilion located in Hall 14 of the Bharat Mandapam, where the conference is being held.

Foreign visitors can download the CheckUPI app developed by Transcorp from the Play Store or App Store and complete a simple registration process.

To register, they will need to fill in basic information, upload their passport and visa, take a selfie through the app, and set their UPI PIN. Once registration is complete, they will receive a unique UPI ID.

Travelers can add funds to their wallet using international debit or credit cards and make payments by scanning UPI QR codes across India.

This will eliminate the hassle of carrying cash or exchanging foreign currency. Any remaining balance in the wallet can be transferred back to the original payment source according to foreign exchange regulations.

Users can load a maximum of ₹25,000 into the wallet at one time, with a limit of two loads per month, allowing for a total of ₹50,000 monthly.

Speaking about this initiative, Sohini Rajola, Executive Director of Growth at NPCI, stated that UPI is the world’s largest real-time payment system.
