Patna, April 3: The recent liquor tragedy in Motihari, Bihar, has sparked significant political backlash against the ruling double-engine government. Opposition leaders assert that the government has failed to enforce the state’s prohibition laws, resulting in fatalities due to toxic alcohol consumption.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav reported that four individuals lost their lives after consuming poisonous liquor, while six others have suffered severe vision loss. Many more are in critical condition. This incident highlights the NDA government’s failure to uphold its prohibition laws and exposes serious flaws within the system. According to available data, over 1,300 people have died from toxic alcohol since the enforcement of prohibition in Bihar. This figure is likely an underestimation, as the actual number may be significantly higher. Additionally, numerous individuals have lost their eyesight due to this crisis.
BJP MP Vivek Thakur emphasized that political maneuvering should not occur in the wake of such tragedies. He described the incident as deeply unfortunate and stressed the need to focus on the families affected. Thakur called for the administration to address the situation with urgency and take appropriate action.
Regarding a viral video incident from Nalanda, Thakur remarked that such mentalities can arise anywhere in the world. He noted that individuals involved in these incidents often require mental health support.
While acknowledging the tragedy, Thakur insisted that the priority should be to offer comfort to the affected families. He also criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, questioning why she has not acknowledged the Supreme Court’s comments regarding law and order in the state. He stated that the reality of the situation in Bengal is well-known.
Thakur concluded by asserting that this election represents a chance for change and a critical opportunity to save Bengal.
