Noida, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has intensified its crackdown on construction projects amid rising air pollution in Noida. A significant environmental fine of ₹50 lakh has been recommended against Ivory County, a project by Ambience Private Limited, for violating environmental regulations.
During inspections, serious shortcomings in air pollution control measures were identified at the site located in Sector 115. Dust was observed blowing across the construction area, and anti-smog guns were found non-operational. A report from the regional office of the UPPCB in Noida detailed that thorough inspections were conducted around the CAQM station in Sector 116 on October 5, 2026, following a spike in the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the area over the previous four days.
The inspection revealed ongoing construction about 750 meters from the CAQM station at plot number GH-01 in Sector 115. Vinod Kumar Sahani, a representative from the project, was present during the inspection. The team noted several critical deficiencies related to the construction activities. The report indicated that appropriate windbreaking walls were not installed around the project site, and essential green net covers were missing from the buildings under construction.
Additionally, open painting was being conducted using spray guns, and construction materials, soil, and C&D waste were left exposed. There was insufficient covering and regular watering to manage dust. The inspection found significant dust accumulation on internal roads and around the site, exacerbated by vehicle movement without adequate water spraying to control dust emissions. Although two anti-smog guns were located on the premises, neither was operational.
The report also highlighted that the installation of these machines did not meet the required standards. Excessive dust was noted from vehicle movement both inside and outside the project area. Furthermore, a tire washing system was not found at the main entrance of the project. The UPPCB’s inspection revealed that the project had failed to adequately comply with directives issued periodically by the Commission for Air Quality Management, the Central Pollution Control Board, and various government bodies, including the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal.
The report attributes the increase in AQI levels at the CAQM station in Sector 116 to the project. The inspection report, prepared by regional officer Ritesh Kumar Tiwari, has been forwarded to the Chief Environmental Officer for necessary action. Copies of the report have also been sent to the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar and the General Manager/Nodal Environmental Officer of the Noida Authority for further information and required actions.
