Sanjay Nirupam Criticizes Opposition Over Voter List Controversy

Mumbai, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Sanjay Nirupam, a spokesperson for Shiv Sena, has strongly criticized the ongoing protests by opposition parties regarding the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of the voter list. He condemned Sharad Pawar’s support for the protests and took aim at Raj Thackeray’s calls for an election boycott. Nirupam also praised Captain Smita Machhar‘s bravery while questioning Rahul Gandhi’s silence on the matter.

In a recent statement, Nirupam said, “There is a false narrative being spread against the SIR. The opposition is staging this protest to hide their impending defeat. Sharad Pawar has jumped into this movement, calling for all political parties to find a solution.”

He pointed out that many deceased voters still appear on the list, as do individuals who have changed their residence. Nirupam emphasized that even non-citizens have fraudulently registered to vote. According to him, the SIR process aims to purify the voter list by removing names of non-voters and those who are not citizens of the country.

“This entire process is under the supervision of the Supreme Court. When SIR was initiated in Bihar, several political parties challenged it in court. The court made it clear that no legitimate voter’s name should be removed. Thus, discussing solutions now is merely a political stunt. The opposition fears losing their support base as fraudulent votes are eliminated,” he stated.

Nirupam also criticized Raj Thackeray, who claimed he once told Sonia Gandhi he would boycott elections. “Sonia did not heed his words, and perhaps that is what pains him. Thackeray’s own intentions to boycott elections stem from his repeated failures in recent elections, with no legislators or MPs emerging from his party. If he avoids running, it may preserve his dignity, as his chances of winning are slim,” Nirupam remarked.

Additionally, he commended Captain Smita Machhar for her heroism, stating, “The entire nation is praising Captain Machhar. Prayers are being offered in temples for her. World leaders are lauding her for averting a disaster and saving 174 passengers during a terrorist attack, despite facing a deadly assault from her co-pilot. This is a moment of pride for all of India.”

Addressing Rahul Gandhi, Nirupam noted, “At a time when the entire country stands with Captain Machhar, Congress leaders, particularly Rahul Gandhi, have not uttered a single word of praise. This indicates that when India’s pride rises, it causes discomfort for Congress leaders. I condemn this behavior.”
