Shimla, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Himachal Pradesh’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, Rajiv Bindal, announced on October 5 that the election of a BJP-supported candidate to the Lahaul-Spiti district council chairmanship sends a clear political message from the public.
Following the election process for chairpersons across the state’s 12 district councils, BJP-supported leadership emerged in 11 councils. Bindal stated that these results reflect public sentiment towards the performance of the Congress government in the state. Thinlay Dichen was elected as the chairperson of the Lahaul-Spiti district council.
Bindal noted that BJP-supported leadership was also evident in several districts, including Shimla and Kangra, which are home to Chief Minister Sukhu and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri. In Shimla, both a BJP-supported chairperson and vice-chairperson were elected for the district council.
“The people of the state have delivered a clear message to the Congress government through these district council elections. The victory of the BJP-supported chairperson in Lahaul-Spiti has further strengthened this message,” Bindal stated.
He accused the Congress government and its leaders of using political and administrative influence to establish their leadership within the district councils. Bindal alleged that the Congress utilized government influence during the election process in Lahaul-Spiti, yet BJP-supported candidates still managed to secure the chairmanship.
He described the results as a referendum on the performance of Chief Minister Sukhu’s government and the Congress party. Voters have expressed their opinions from the panchayat level to the district council level through these elections.
The BJP president emphasized that these district council elections were about local governance, where people chose their representatives. The results have also placed a responsibility on the BJP organization and its elected representatives.
Bindal concluded by stating that BJP-supported representatives will focus on development, public service, and addressing local issues in their respective areas.
