Noida, September 2: Following the horrific gang rape of a 17-year-old student, the Gautam Buddh Nagar police have ramped up efforts to ensure women’s safety and compliance with public transport regulations. In response to the incident, police conducted extensive checks on suspicious vehicles and public transport throughout Noida overnight.
Police teams were seen stopping buses, taxis, and other vehicles to inspect their documentation, windows, tinted films, curtains, lighting systems, and other safety standards. During these checks, several buses were found lacking essential safety measures, including the absence of panic buttons. Additionally, many vehicles were scrutinized for tinted windows, dark curtains, and unauthorized modifications. Authorities from the police and transport departments have made it clear that action will be taken against vehicles violating established standards.
Earlier in the day, the transport department also launched a comprehensive campaign against public transport vehicles. Nine buses were seized, and around 400 buses were fined for various violations. Officials instructed bus operators and drivers to adhere to traffic regulations and passenger safety provisions.
Under the direction of Police Commissioner Lakshmi Singh, DCP Noida Saad Mia Khan, and ADCP Noida Manisha Singh, ACP-1 Noida Praveen Kumar Singh led foot patrols in the Sector-20 and Sector-39 areas.
Officials reviewed the area’s security arrangements and provided necessary guidelines to police personnel. They instructed officers to stop suspicious vehicles using barricades for thorough inspections. Additionally, they emphasized the need to maintain traffic order and take action against drivers violating regulations. All PCR and PRV vehicles were directed to remain active in the area to ensure safety.
In line with these efforts, a police team, supervised by DCP Central Noida Shailendra Kumar Singh and led by ADCP Greater Noida Indradhanush Kumar Singh, conducted rigorous checks on public vehicles near the Advant Cut in Sector-142. They examined the documentation of various vehicles, including buses and taxis, and investigated compliance with traffic regulations, lighting systems, and any unauthorized modifications. The police ensured necessary legal action against suspicious vehicles and individuals.
Officials have instructed all station heads to regularly check public and suspicious vehicles and take legal action against violators. Police officials stated that this campaign will continue, prioritizing the safety of the general public, especially women and students. Increased monitoring of suspicious activities during nighttime and action against vehicle operators neglecting safety standards in public transport are also being enforced.
