Noida, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : In response to the increasing pressure on its sewer system due to a rising population, the Noida Authority has launched two critical projects aimed at improving waste management in the city. On September 11, 2026, Member of Parliament Dr. Mahesh Sharma and local MLA Pankaj Singh inaugurated a newly constructed pumping station in Sector 56 and laid the foundation for a new pumping station in Sector 51.
According to authority officials, the completion of these projects will significantly enhance the sewer disposal system in the respective sectors, which house approximately 60,000 residents. The pumping station in Sector 56 has a capacity of 5 million liters per day (MLD), with an investment of about ₹1.43 crore from the Noida Authority. This facility will facilitate the organized transfer of sewer waste from Sector 56 to the sewer pumping station located in Sector 55.
From there, the waste will be directed to the Sector 54 sewage treatment plant (STP) for processing. The authority claims that this new system will largely resolve long-standing sewer issues in Sector 56. Meanwhile, the planned pumping station in Sector 51 is designed to handle a capacity of 8 MLD, with an estimated cost of ₹4.83 crore. This facility will play a crucial role in managing sewer disposal for Sector 51 Part B, as well as the nearby areas of Central Vihar, Hoshiyarpur, and the D-11 and D-10 drains.
The sewer waste from these areas will be connected to the new pumping station, after which it will be sent to STP-50 for scientific treatment. Officials noted that while planning for the Sector 51 pumping station, they took into account the anticipated increase in sewer loads from surrounding areas due to ongoing residential development.
The new system is being developed in accordance with the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), aiming to prevent uncontrolled sewer overflow and ensure proper treatment at the plant. This initiative is expected to aid in reducing water pollution.
Both projects are seen as significant steps toward strengthening the city’s sewer infrastructure to meet future demands. The operation of the pumping station in Sector 56 is expected to provide immediate relief, while the completion of the Sector 51 facility will benefit several nearby regions. Authorities believe the new system will help control issues related to sewer overflow and flooding, while also laying the groundwork to address future challenges in sewer management due to population growth.
