New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : During the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, the Ramnathswami Temple from Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, served as a stunning backdrop for a welcoming ceremony attended by world leaders. Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar expressed his delight at this representation, calling it a point of pride for both the state and the nation.
In a statement, the governor highlighted the temple as a remarkable symbol of Tamil Nadu’s architectural brilliance, cultural heritage, and ancient civilizational pride. The temple’s grand corridors and its 1,212 intricately carved pillars showcase the exceptional craftsmanship and engineering skills of our ancestors.
Arlekar commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for showcasing India’s achievements in innovation, development, and global cooperation, alongside the invaluable heritage of Tamil Nadu, on an international platform. He noted that the representation of Rameswaram at a forum like BRICS sends a clear message that India’s forward-looking development is deeply rooted in its ancient cultural and civilizational heritage. “Our heritage is our strength, and our civilizational legacy is our enduring identity,” he stated.
Before the summit, held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi welcomed several global leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
During the welcoming ceremony, Modi took the opportunity to inform various leaders about the historical and religious significance of the Ramnathswami Temple, particularly explaining its importance to President Xi Jinping.
Located on Pamban Island, the Ramnathswami Temple is regarded as one of the most significant pilgrimage sites in Hinduism. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva and holds special religious significance due to its connections to the Ramayana.
Renowned for its vast corridors, unique architecture, and rich religious traditions, the temple stands as a vital symbol of Indian culture, faith, and historical heritage.
India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13, with the theme of resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability, reflecting Prime Minister Modi’s “Humanity First” approach.
