No PUC, No Petrol: New Rule Enforced in Gautam Buddha Nagar to Combat Air Pollution

Gautam Buddha Nagar, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : In a bid to tackle rising air pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR), Gautam Buddha Nagar has introduced the ‘No PUC, No Petrol’ rule. Effective October 1, 2026, vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) will be denied petrol and diesel at local filling stations.

To enforce this initiative, the district has equipped all 113 petrol pumps with a PUCC verification app, allowing officials to check the pollution certificates of drivers. This action aligns with guidelines issued by the Air Quality Management Commission aimed at controlling pollution in the NCR. Before dispensing fuel, attendants will verify the validity of the PUCC. If a vehicle lacks a valid certificate, fuel will not be provided.

To ensure compliance, the administration has formed teams at various levels. Joint inspections are being conducted by the District Supply Officer and the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) at petrol stations. Additionally, regional supply officers and inspectors are regularly monitoring operations in their respective areas. Officials have been instructed to strictly enforce the directives from the government and the Air Quality Management Commission at all petrol pumps.

During recent inspections, the District Supply Officer and ARTO visited several petrol stations, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the PUCC verification system and adhering to established guidelines. They also stressed the need for petrol pump operators to adequately inform drivers about the regulations.

Nilesh Utpal, the District Supply Officer, stated that the enforcement of the rule barring fuel access to vehicles without valid PUCCs will be strictly implemented. Vehicle owners are being encouraged to obtain their pollution control certificates on time and maintain their validity. Alongside enforcement, the administration is focusing on public awareness regarding the new regulations.

Banners and posters related to the ‘No PUC, No Petrol’ rule are being displayed at all petrol stations to inform drivers in advance and prevent any inconvenience when seeking fuel. Authorities advise vehicle owners to ensure they have a valid PUCC and to renew it before expiration.

This initiative aims not only to enforce compliance but also to reduce vehicle emissions and enhance air quality in the NCR. With the app-based verification system now operational at 113 petrol stations, ongoing monitoring by petrol pump operators and enforcement teams is set to continue. Joint inspection teams will regularly assess petrol stations to ensure the effective implementation of the ‘No PUC, No Petrol’ rule.
