No Gas Shortage in India, Continuous Supply of CNG and PNG Assured: Government

New Delhi, March 16: The central government announced on Monday that there is no gas shortage in the country, ensuring uninterrupted supply of CNG and PNG to consumers.

Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, stated that fuel pumps supplying CNG and domestic PNG connections are operating normally.

She emphasized, “The supply to both CNG users and PNG consumers is fully maintained. Authorities have also initiated enforcement actions to prevent hoarding. Raids have been conducted in several states to inspect fuel storage and supply.”

A senior government official further confirmed that crude oil is available in sufficient quantities. “All refineries are operating at full capacity. Our petrol pumps are functioning normally. No reports of shortages have been received so far,” he added.

Gas distribution companies have also launched incentive schemes for new PNG consumers. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) announced a free gas incentive of ₹500 for consumers registering for PNG connections before March 31.

Meanwhile, fears regarding the availability of domestic gas have led to a decline in LPG bookings, while raids are being conducted across states to curb hoarding and black marketing.

To monitor the situation, 22 states and union territories have established control rooms. The ministry has urged consumers not to panic and to use digital booking platforms, avoiding unnecessary visits to LPG distributors.

In a statement, the ministry assured that the government will continue to prioritize the interests of domestic consumers, ensuring a steady supply of LPG, especially for homes, hospitals, and educational institutions.
