CBI Arrests Delhi Municipal Engineer for Bribery in Major Anti-Corruption Operation

New Delhi, March 21: In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an assistant engineer of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) while accepting a bribe. Officials reported the incident on Saturday.

The arrested individual has been identified as Hukam Singh Meena, stationed at the QUC office in Ghazipur, South Shahdara zone of the Delhi Municipal Corporation. According to the CBI, Meena was demanding a bribe from a complainant in exchange for official work and was caught in the act.

The CBI stated that a case was registered on March 18, alleging that Meena had solicited a bribe of ₹20,000 to clear the complainant’s bill verification file. Following the complaint, the agency conducted a trap operation on March 19.

During this operation, Meena was apprehended while accepting ₹18,000 in bribes. He is currently in custody as further investigations are underway. The agency is also trying to determine if others are involved in this case.

The CBI emphasized that this operation is part of its ongoing campaign against corruption in government offices. The agency has made it clear that ensuring transparency and accountability in governance is a top priority.

Additionally, the CBI has urged the public to report any instances of bribery or misconduct by government employees. Officials noted that public complaints are the primary basis for action in such cases. Strict legal action, including fines and imprisonment, will be taken against those found guilty.

Recently, the CBI has conducted several similar operations. On March 17, the agency arrested a junior engineer from South Eastern Railway, Ravindra Kumar, for allegedly accepting a bribe from a private company in Jharkhand. On March 16, a medical officer associated with ECHS in Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Ashish Shakya, and an official from a private hospital, Bijendra Singh, were also apprehended in a bribery case.
