New Delhi, May 13: In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to conserve fuel, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has made a significant decision. He will reduce the number of vehicles in his convoy and travel by bus. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of the Government of India announced this in an official letter.
The ministry has communicated with the Pune Police Commissioner, District Collector, and other senior officials, stating that Minister Gadkari will inspect the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palakhi route by bus. Following PM Modi’s call, Gadkari has decided to cut the number of vehicles in his convoy by 50%.
In his letter, Gadkari mentioned that he will be inspecting the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palakhi route projects on May 14-15. He emphasized the need to reduce fuel consumption for transportation purposes in the interest of national energy security, as advised by the Prime Minister. Therefore, he has opted to travel by bus with accompanying officials, journalists, and security personnel. This decision aims to improve traffic management and enhance public convenience.
He further requested that during the visit, the number of vehicles in the convoy be reduced to 50% of the usual deployment. He also urged relevant authorities to issue necessary instructions to ensure proper arrangements.
Previously, Minister Gadkari stated that with the introduction of the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system, India is rapidly advancing towards world-class highway infrastructure. The goal is to ensure smooth travel across the country, reduce pollution, and lower logistics costs.
The minister inaugurated the country’s first barrier-free toll plaza at Mundka-Bakkarwala on the Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2) in the National Capital Region. The MLFF system presents a contactless and barrier-free toll collection mechanism, allowing vehicles to pass through toll plazas without stopping. It utilizes Fastag-based electronic toll collection integrated with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology.
