Mumbai, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Filmmaker Nikhil Advani has garnered significant praise for his recent streaming series, “The Revolutionaries.” He likens this project to a “test match,” reflecting on his previous works like “Rocket Boys” and “Freedom at Midnight.”
In a conversation with actors Bhuvan Bam, Rohit Saraf, Pratibha Ranta, and Gurfateh Pirzada, Advani shared insights about his preparation for this ambitious series. “I had already built a solid foundation with my earlier projects,” he explained. “Working on ‘Rocket Boys’ and ‘Freedom at Midnight’ was like playing in the Ranji Trophy and IPL. I approached this project with that experience.”
Advani emphasized the growth in scale with “The Revolutionaries,” noting that while “Freedom at Midnight” featured a set spanning three acres, this new series expanded to six acres. It also boasts around 110 to 120 sets, compared to the 96 sets in his previous work.
The series began when Prime Video acquired the rights to the book “Revolutionaries: The Other Story of How India Won Its Freedom.” Initially, Advani was excited about revisiting another historical narrative. However, he soon realized that this story was quite different from his past projects.
Based on the lives of four freedom fighters—Ras Bihari Bose, Pratibha Lahiri, Sachindra Nath Sanyal, and Bagha Jatin—this series portrays their fierce resistance against British rule. It draws inspiration from true events within the context of India’s struggle for independence. The cast also includes Rohit Saraf, Pratibha Ranta, Gurfateh Pirzada, and Jason Shah.
The narrative focuses on the belief among these revolutionaries that armed struggle was not only necessary but essential for ending British rule. Their relentless efforts forced the British Empire to relocate its capital from Kolkata to Delhi.
Produced under the banner of Emme Entertainment by Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani, the series is penned by Sanjeev Sanyal. “The Revolutionaries” is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
