Patna, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant operation on September 8, 2026, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted a raid in Patna, resulting in the arrest of a man and the recovery of approximately ₹20 lakh in cash. The operation took place near the Judio Mall in the Chitragupt Nagar area, following intelligence about a suspect named Sandeep Gupta. However, Gupta was not present at the scene during the raid.
As the NIA’s Special Task Force (STF) and local police searched the area, another young man, identified as Anmol Kumar Modi from Chakia in East Champaran, attempted to flee the scene on a scooter. The officers intercepted him and conducted a search of the scooter, uncovering a bag filled with the substantial amount of cash in its storage compartment.
Modi was unable to provide satisfactory answers regarding the cash’s presence, prompting authorities to notify the Income Tax Department about the seizure. Local residents indicated that Modi is involved in the trade of iron rods and scrap metal, visiting his ancestral village only occasionally. On the day of the raid, his home in Chakia was found locked, and there was no immediate information available about his family members. Neighbors confirmed his association with the scrap and metal trade.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the source of the cash, its intended use, and whether it is connected to the NIA’s ongoing operations. Further updates are anticipated as the inquiry progresses.
