Police in New Delhi Uncover Theft Ring, Arrest Suspects in Sarojini Nagar

New Delhi, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : In a recent operation, police in New Delhi’s Sarojini Nagar area arrested a thief and a scrap dealer linked to a burglary case. The arrests were made following a report of theft from the Laxmi Bai Nagar neighborhood on August 25, 2026.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Goyal stated that a PCR call prompted the Sarojini Nagar police to register an e-FIR on August 26. The investigation was initiated under the relevant sections of the law.

To identify and apprehend the suspects, a special team was formed under the supervision of Inspector Atul Tyagi, the station house officer of Sarojini Nagar, and ACP Melvin Varghese from Safdarjung Enclave. The team included head constables Amarjeet, Ajit, Anand, Dilbag, Menpal, Mahesh, and Raghuveer.

During their investigation, police analyzed CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas, as well as potential escape routes. This thorough approach led to the identification and arrest of a suspect named Chandan. Further inquiries revealed the involvement of Imran, who purchased the stolen goods, and he was also taken into custody.

Chandan disclosed during questioning that he previously worked as a carpenter and later as a welder in Gurugram. Upon arriving in Delhi, he targeted vacant houses and quarters, stealing items such as wires, pipes, and other valuables. He sold the stolen goods to local scrap dealers.

Authorities recovered several stolen items from the suspects, including two pairs of silver anklets, three pairs of toe rings, a wristwatch, a bottle of perfume, a CCTV camera, and the clothes Chandan wore during the crime. The suspects were identified as Chandan, 24, a resident of Gurugram, Haryana, and Imran, 34, from Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi.

According to police records, Chandan has a history of criminal involvement in five previous cases, with four registered at the South Campus police station and one at the Hauz Khas police station in Delhi. Imran, on the other hand, is known for his scrap dealing and was involved in the buying and selling of stolen wires and metal.
