New Zealand Strengthens Lead Against England at The Oval with Henry Nicholls Century

London, June 20: New Zealand has solidified its position against England in the Test match at The Oval as the third day concluded. By the end of the day, New Zealand had scored 252 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their second innings, establishing a lead of 352 runs. The Kiwi team had a 100-run advantage from their first innings.

New Zealand’s second innings did not start well. Opening batsman and captain Tom Latham struggled again, getting out for just 4 runs, while Devon Conway managed only 11 runs before being dismissed. However, Henry Nicholls and Rachin Ravindra formed a strong partnership, adding 161 runs for the third wicket, putting the team in a commanding position. Ravindra scored 76 runs before being dismissed. By the end of the day, Nicholls was unbeaten at 119, with Mitchell also contributing 32 runs. The duo had put together a partnership of 63 runs without losing any wickets.

Earlier, England’s first innings ended at 291 runs. For England, Fisher, batting at number nine, remained not out on 50 runs. Emilio Gay contributed 53 runs, while Joe Root and Ben Duckett scored 46 and 36 runs, respectively. England trailed New Zealand by 100 runs based on their first innings performance.

For New Zealand, experienced fast bowler Matt Henry was the standout performer, taking 5 wickets. Will O’Rourke claimed 2 wickets, while Kyle Jamieson and Nathan Smith each took 1 wicket.

In their first innings, New Zealand scored 391 runs, thanks to Glenn Phillips’ maiden Test century. Phillips scored 100 runs off 135 balls, hitting 18 fours. Kyle Jamieson contributed 41 runs, Tom Blundell added 51, Rachin Ravindra scored 33, Tom Latham made 27, and Henry Nicholls chipped in with 24 runs. The Kiwi team also benefited from 53 extras.

For England, Bethel took 3 wickets for 26 runs in 10 overs. Jofra Archer, Matthew Fisher, and Sonny Baker each took 2 wickets, while Josh Tong took 1 wicket.
