Luka Modric Quells Retirement Rumors, Set to Compete in Nations League

Milan, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Luka Modric has decided to continue his international football career with Croatia, putting an end to speculation surrounding his retirement from the national team. The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) announced that Modric will be part of the squad for upcoming Nations League matches against the Czech Republic, Spain, and England.

This decision follows Modric’s participation in the recent FIFA World Cup, where Croatia faced a 1-2 defeat to Portugal in the Round of 32. Concerns about his international future arose, especially as he approaches his 41st birthday this September.

After discussions with newly appointed head coach Slaven Bilic and HNS president Marijan Kustic, Modric has made himself available for Croatia’s official matches. The AC Milan midfielder remains a crucial player for the national team, having played 202 matches for his country. He has been a key figure for nearly two decades, notably contributing to Croatia’s runner-up finish in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Bilic expressed his delight at Modric’s decision in an official statement on social media, stating, “Naturally, I am very happy with Luka’s decision. We all know what he can bring to Croatia both on and off the pitch. I am excited to work with him again after 14 years. Our shared goal is to keep Croatia among the top teams, achieve victories, and compete with the best in the world.”

Modric has also extended his club career with AC Milan, recently renewing his contract with the Italian club until June 2027. The legendary midfielder will have the opportunity to further enhance his record of 202 international appearances while continuing one of the most illustrious careers in European football.

Since making his senior debut for Croatia in 2006, Modric has remained an integral part of the team. Approaching his 41st birthday, he continues to play regularly and takes on a vital leadership role both on and off the field.
