Lucknow, May 14: Amid global uncertainties, the Uttar Pradesh government has devised a comprehensive strategy to revitalize its tourism sector. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a high-level meeting was held at the Tourism Directorate on Wednesday. Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh stated that the current circumstances could present an “opportunity in disaster,” positioning Uttar Pradesh for a significant leap in tourism.
During the meeting, several key decisions were made, including the launch of the “Visit My State” campaign, the development of heritage sites into destination wedding hubs, and initiatives to promote domestic tourism. The minister emphasized the need to create attractive and experiential tour packages for major religious and cultural sites such as Varanasi, Agra, Mathura, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, and Ayodhya. Improved coordination with tour operators was highlighted as essential for these efforts.
Jaiveer Singh affirmed that the tourism department would operate with a “Nation First” spirit. He directed that all museums in the state offer free entry to tourists for the next two months. Additionally, he proposed a discount of up to 25% at government-run tourist accommodations to encourage domestic tourism.
He urged residents to explore Uttar Pradesh’s rich cultural, religious, and natural heritage instead of opting for foreign travel, thereby strengthening local tourism. The development of a special spiritual tourism circuit connecting goshalas, ancient temples, and significant religious sites was also emphasized. The meeting included directives to prepare historical sites like Chunar Fort and Chhatra Manzil in Lucknow for destination weddings.
The minister noted that the state’s forts, heritage buildings, and eco-tourism sites are ideal for family and cultural events. During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary of Tourism Amrit Abhijat stressed the importance of making departmental operations more disciplined and technology-driven, instructing officials to maximize the use of virtual platforms.
