Congress Questions By-Election Announcement in Datia, Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, July 2: The Election Commission has announced by-elections in three assembly constituencies across three states, including Datia in Madhya Pradesh.

In response to this announcement, the Congress party has raised concerns. The Election Commission declared on Thursday that by-elections will be held in one assembly constituency each in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. Datia is among them, where Congress candidate Rajendra Bharti won the 2023 assembly elections, but his election has since been declared void.

Rajendra Bharti had defeated Narottam Mishra, the then Home Minister of the Shivraj government. Bharti has appealed the court’s decision, and a hearing is expected in the coming days. The Congress party has questioned the Election Commission’s decision to conduct by-elections in Datia.

Opposition leader Umang Singhar stated that the people of Datia elected Congress candidate Rajendra Bharti with a significant majority in 2023. However, due to a conspiracy involving the BJP and the Election Commission, his membership was annulled.

Now, the BJP seems eager to conduct the by-election in Datia to seize the seat. We are confident that the people of Datia will once again place their trust in the Congress party. The opposition leader has urged party workers to begin preparations immediately, asserting that Congress will wave its flag in Datia once more.
