
New Delhi, July 2: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Central Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh, on Thursday in New Delhi. The two leaders engaged in extensive discussions on developing the vast potential of Assam’s fisheries and dairy sectors, aiming to elevate these industries to new heights.
Chief Minister Sarma shared details of the meeting on the social media platform ‘X’, stating that his conversation with Minister Singh was highly positive and productive. He noted that the minister provided several valuable suggestions, drawing from his extensive experience and deep understanding of the sector.
Sarma emphasized the need to harness the immense potential of Assam’s fisheries sector. The discussions focused on increasing fish production and promoting fish exports by strengthening the value chain, developing processing infrastructure, and ensuring better market access.
He stated, “In the coming days, we will work towards turning these ideas into concrete outcomes, making Assam a leading center for fish production and export in the country.”
Regarding the dairy sector, the Chief Minister highlighted discussions on strengthening dairy cooperatives, expanding veterinary services, establishing animal medicine centers, setting up UHT (Ultra High Temperature) and milk powder plants, and improving livestock quality through artificial insemination.
Central Minister Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh also described the meeting on ‘X’ as “cordial and meaningful.” He mentioned that they discussed enhancing the capacity of Assam’s fisheries sector, promoting fish production and exports, strengthening the value chain, and expanding processing infrastructure.
He expressed confidence that coordinated efforts between the central and state governments would lead to rapid development in Assam’s fisheries and dairy sectors, creating new opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs, and rural livelihoods.
The meeting in New Delhi was attended by the Chief Minister’s Additional Chief Secretary Dr. K.K. Dwivedi, Assam Bhawan’s Resident Commissioner Kavita Padmanabhan, and senior officials from the relevant ministries.
