New Delhi, July 2: As preparations for the Punjab Assembly elections intensify, Congress is accelerating efforts to finalize its election manifesto. In a special interview, Congress leader Amar Singh emphasized that the manifesto will reflect the hopes and needs of the public. He stated that it will not be crafted in isolation but will incorporate feedback from various societal segments.
Amar Singh announced that he will soon visit Punjab, where he will first meet with members of the manifesto committee. Following this, the party will engage with farmers, laborers, industry representatives, employees, and other stakeholders. Additionally, feedback will be gathered from district presidents and grassroots workers to ensure that the manifesto addresses the real issues and expectations of the people.
He remarked, “The manifesto is a reflection of the people’s desires. We will go into the field, meet the public, and understand what the people of Punjab truly want. Only after collecting all suggestions will we finalize the manifesto.”
Regarding the alignment between past and new manifestos, Amar Singh stated that Congress will evaluate its previous promises and experiences. The new manifesto will be prepared considering current circumstances and the needs of the public.
On the topic of free schemes, he mentioned that the party will make decisions cautiously, given Punjab’s economic situation. Amar Singh asserted that Congress will not make promises without assessing the economic landscape. Decisions will be made after discussions with experts and party leadership on schemes that genuinely benefit those in need.
He highlighted that Punjab is currently facing economic challenges, making it essential to balance public interests with the state’s financial condition. Amar Singh expressed confidence that Congress will develop a manifesto that not only meets public expectations but also outlines a roadmap for the state’s development and economic strength.
When asked about party organization, Amar Singh noted that Congress has assigned responsibilities to senior leaders and MPs, ensuring no one is overlooked. He indicated that if necessary, additional leaders could be included in committees.
Targeting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Amar Singh criticized the unfulfilled promises made during the elections. He alleged that the government made commitments to the public without serious efforts to fulfill them.
He pointed out that AAP claimed it would generate an additional revenue of ₹20,000 crores annually, but the reality has been quite different. Amar Singh also mentioned that AAP had promised not to incur new debt, yet Punjab’s debt has been steadily increasing. He accused the current government of accumulating more debt during its tenure than in previous decades. He raised concerns about law and order, stating that corruption and administrative inefficiency have become major issues for the public. According to him, it has become increasingly difficult to get work done in government offices without bribes.
Referring to the Chief Minister‘s Mawan-Dhiyaan Satkar scheme, Amar Singh noted that the government had promised to provide women with ₹1,000 in assistance upon coming to power, which has not materialized. He claimed that as elections approach, the government is attempting to gain electoral advantage by distributing funds for three months. He asserted that in Congress-ruled states, women’s schemes are already in place and benefits are being regularly disbursed.
