Mumbai, August 10: A delegation of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MPs met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. This meeting has sparked discussions in political circles about whether the NCP will support the NDA government’s delimitation bill. Meanwhile, the BJP has described this meeting as a natural occurrence.
Maharashtra Minister Pratap Sarnaik expressed that the meeting was a positive development. He noted that leaders such as Supriya Sule and Jayant Patil had the opportunity to meet with PM Modi. They realized that if they approach the Prime Minister regarding development projects, he is likely to allocate funds and approve those initiatives. Many opposition leaders from across the country are also seeking meetings with him. Some are coming to us, while others are approaching the NDA. This is beneficial for the country’s political landscape.
BJP MLA Amit Satam commented that the Lok Sabha session is currently underway. Leaders from various parties and MPs frequently meet the Prime Minister for various reasons during this time. It is natural for MPs from different parties to engage with him during the session.
NCP leader and spokesperson Mahesh Tapase stated that the meeting, led by national leader and floor leader Supriya Sule, was pre-arranged and entirely transparent. It took place in the Prime Minister’s office within the Parliament complex. The purpose was to discuss issues related to the constituencies of the MPs. Several matters concerning Maharashtra were addressed, representing nearly all revenue districts from rural Thane to the Vidarbha region of Wardha.
Congress leader Naseem Khan remarked that given the ongoing discussions and reports, the meeting between the NCP delegation and the Prime Minister should not be viewed negatively. He emphasized that there is nothing wrong with any delegation or MP meeting the Prime Minister or a central minister to discuss development in their state or constituency. However, he expressed skepticism about the reports suggesting that Sharad Pawar, a prominent leader advocating the ideologies of Shahu, Phule, and Ambedkar, would support the bill proposed by the BJP.
Furthermore, Mahesh Tapase clarified that regarding the delimitation bill, the NCP, under Sharad Pawar’s leadership, had strongly opposed it when it was initially presented. As of now, no draft for the delimitation has been proposed. Discussions will take place once it is presented.
