Moscow, August 10: The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has escalated with a recent drone attack by Ukraine on an industrial city located approximately 600 miles east of Moscow. According to the local mayor, the assault resulted in at least 13 fatalities and 39 injuries.
This latest strike marks a significant intensification of Ukraine’s airstrike campaign within Russian territory. Russian investigators reported that the attack occurred in the city of Nizhnekamsk, affecting both civilians and industrial sites. This city is home to one of Russia’s largest and most advanced oil refineries. The investigative committee stated that among the deceased was a child.
This incident is one of the most dangerous attacks on Russian soil since the large-scale war began in 2022. Throughout the conflict, Moscow has targeted Ukrainian cities with heavy missiles and drones, leading to numerous civilian casualties.
In recent months, Ukraine has systematically targeted Russian oil refineries to disrupt fuel supplies to both military and civilian sectors. Russia, a major oil-producing nation, has faced interruptions in oil production due to these ongoing attacks, resulting in long lines at gas stations and increased pressure on its oil supply.
Earlier on Friday, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine’s largest pharmaceutical warehouse. While there were no reported casualties, the health facilities suffered significant damage.
Russia has dismissed the option of temporarily halting the conflict with Ukraine. Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin stated that a resolution to the crisis is only possible if its root causes are addressed. In an interview with the Russian news agency TASS, he emphasized the necessity of eliminating the underlying issues of the crisis.
According to TASS, Galuzin remarked, “President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that without addressing the core causes of this crisis, any ceasefire is impossible.” He also noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appears to be completely detached from reality and is attempting to escalate the conflict, causing frustration among countries that Kyiv considers partners.
Galuzin added, “The attacks on civilian energy infrastructure speak volumes. In July and August, Ukrainian forces conducted demonstrative terrorist attacks on facilities associated with the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) using drones. This pipeline primarily supports Kazakhstan’s economic interests.”
